Quartzite is a very hard metamorphic rock that originated as sandstone. Through a process of high heating and pressurization sandstone is transformed into quartzite, an extremely durable natural stone. Quartzite is often a highly prized natural stone much more varied in veining, coloring, and patterns compared to most granite options. Quartzite, as opposed to granite, often tends to have lighter tones like white and gray and is more similar to marble looks than its granite counterpart.
You should consider quartzite countertops for their strength, beauty, and overall durability.”

KBR stocks 9 different quartzite colors. We continually refresh our current inventory by working with our suppliers to ensure we get beautiful and bold slabs given the luxurious nature of this product. Quartzite is often more expensive that quartz or granite given the way it is mined and the fabrication process.
Quartzite is different than granite in that it is a metaphoric rock that is primarily made up of quartz. It is typically harder than granite, measuring a 7 vs a 6 on the Mohs scale (Diamond is 10). Quartzite has many of the same benefits as granite (resistant to scratching and durable under extreme heat) however one major variance exists, etching. Etching is caused when acidic cleaners are used on the stone, leaving dull marks or spots.
Quartzite comes in 100s of colors. Like higher end granites, quartzites are known for their natural beauty. They’re typically lighter in appearance than granite and their natural formation creates truly unique patterns that create exquisite, one-of-a-kind looks to fit your personal style. Most of our quartzite comes from South America, specifically Brazil. We also import quartzite from Italy and parts of North America.
